7 Symbolism Santa was a good symbol so far, it symbolizes that because they are poor they aren’t allowed the ignorance of a magic old man, that we were as children, that they must grow up in an adult world. Also the Joshua tree, it grew up disfigured by the wind, like everyone in the world like the tree we are formed by the elements that surround us as young beings. Fire is a good symbol because it is a symbol of power and even though Jeannette was encased with it and almost died she embraces it.

8 Theme A theme that has developed in the book The Glass Castle so far is that family is the only people that you can trust above all, for everyone has their dirty secrets.
